Best Wedding Songs Of 2015
The Buckeye Sounds Top Wedding Songs of 2015
WOW! 2015 was a great year in pop music that gave us plenty of songs that makes packing a dance floor easier. Lots of great new songs that will certainly be dance-floor-fillers for many years to come. In most years you only get one song with a lot of staying power over the years. This year I think we got THREE which is incredible.
1 – “Shut Up and Dance” – Walk The Moon. The 2015 battle for #1 was very very tough. Choosing between this or “Uptown Funk” came down to two deciding factors. One was how many times we closed weddings with this song. The second was that "Shut Up" has a very sing-able chorus. I think five years from now we’ll be playing this song and crowds will be erupting and people will be pointing at their friends and screaming the chorus just like they do today. That is the sign of an all-time great dance song and we think this song will remain a staple for us.
2 – “Uptown Funk” – Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. This is clearly the biggest song of 2015 (13 straight weeks at Number One on Billboard’s Hot 100) and its just a great dance tune. Plus it’s got a music video that is good clean fun and looks great at shows where we’ve got plasma screens. It’s got that crazy funky beat with hilarious lyrics (“gotta kiss myself I’m so pretty”). In our opinion, “Uptown Funk” joins the ranks of those songs that will stay in our regular dance song rotations for a VERY long time. Most years you are lucky if you get one of those. This year, I think we got two.
3 – “Thinking Out Loud” – Ed Sheeran. As soon as I heard this song I knew it was going to be a big hit. It was very popular for first dance songs because its timeless and classic appeal. In many ways its like John Legend’s “All of Me” which is also a great first dance song. The lyrics are perfect for a wedding and Sheeran sings them passionately. This song will be around forever and everyone will recognize it.
4 – “Watch Me” – Silento. So no job is perfect....not even being a wedding DJ. Sometimes (actually often) as a DJ you play what you know will work even if it’s a song you don’t like very much. Sometimes when I am playing The Nae Nae I have to remind myself of that. It’s a silly song. I don't think its especially well done. But we get lots of request for it, it packs dance floors, and it makes people happy so that's why I have it so highly rated for this year.
5 – “Sugar” – Maroon 5. Maroon 5 has given us another very catch-able tune. It has a great chorus that will have crowds on the dance floor singing along with. That being said, I don't think it quite reaches the level of their 2011 song “Moves Like Jagger”. I also love the music video for this song that plays off the movie "The Wedding Crashers" as it has the group performing at various wedding receptions. Can you imagine having Maroon 5 show up at YOUR wedding reception and doing a few songs for you?
6 – “Cheerleader” – OMI featuring Kid Ink. Yeah that trumpet solo starts the song is so unique and different. Then the lyrics start and that finger snap beat turned it into the biggest song of the summer. This cool reggae hit is fun and infectious and was a big international hit.
7 –“What Do You Mean” – Justin Bieber. So I'll be honest here. I am not a big fan of the Biebs. But I have to give credit here, I like this song, and it works pretty well on the dance floor too. This was his first song to hit #1 in the USA. Despite it being smooth and soulful, its a pretty fast song too.
8 – “Can’t Feel My Face” – The Weeknd. Another huge hit song from the summer of 2015. It’s not the highest energy song but it still always seemed to works for people on the dance floor. Once the beat kicks in this song is just awesome.
9 – “How Deep Is Your Love” – Calvin Harris. So I love this EDM dance floor anthem that works great at wedding receptions. Similar to “Can’t Feel My Face” it takes a little bit for the bass-y beat to kick in but once it does this song is a great dance track.
10 – “Trap Queen” – Fetty Wap. This song sounds like a video game set to a sick beat but Fetty Wap makes it work. Its one of the best out-of-nowhere rap anthems in recent history and has been a dance floor packer for us most of the year.
So that's our ranking. What do you think?
