Greek & Arabic Wedding At The Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Greek ANd Arabic Wedding Reception At The Greek Orthodox Cathedral

So I think that when I look back at my 2023 weddings, Angela & Nathan’s will have to make one of the year’s best! It just seemed to have everything - great families, Greek dancing, Arabic music and dancing, and a beautiful ballroom.

So Nathan & Angela met their freshman year at OSU. They lived on the same dorm floor. I just love stories like this.

Speaking of stories, were the display of pictures of the parents (and more) wedding. I see this quite frequently where pictures of the parents, grand parents and sometimes even the great grandparents are on display for everyone to see. This is a wonderful way to honor the parents. But what was really unique about this one, was that there was a picture of the great great grandparents on the display. That was going back a really long way.

The ballroom was set up with simple / classic white uplighting that we supplied. I just love how our decor lighting can really make this beautiful ballroom look even better. Its a great ‘wow’ effect when the guests enter into the room, setting the stage for a wonderful celebration.

There was also some very nice pipe and drape around the head table and cake table. Its these short of ‘small changes’ that really make your venue look SO much better! It just makes the focal points of the room come better into focus for your guests - I can’t say it any better than that.

The guest keep coming up and giving me great Greek songs requests that would give me a good dance floor. Then five minutes later I would get some Arabic songs requests that resulted in a good dance floor. Either way the dance floor was full. So here’s some advice if you are reading this - if you are planning a mixed ethnic event I would suggest that you do short sets of each, surrounded by the typical wedding music.

One thing I love about weddings is when I get to play a song that I haven’t played in a while, and see the reaction of the people on the dance floor when it start. That song for this reception was “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer. I don’t think I’ve EVER played that song at a reception, but it was on their playlist, so it got played! And of course….it went over better than I thought it would have! Kudos to the bride and groom for knowing their crowd SO WELL!

So what was the biggest song of this night? It was sort of hard to tell, there were SO many songs that worked great. Angela’s favorite song was “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. Party In The USA and Time Of Our Life were also really good songs for this group.

You can see from the pictures here what a good time was had by the guests, and so did the DJ! Its these sort of weddings that really makes me enjoy what I do!

We ended the night with TWO really great songs that went over really well with the crowd. We had the crowd in a giant circle on the dance floor singing “Sweet Caroline”! The last song of the night was Taylor Swift’s Love Story. All the ladies were singing along….but the guys had to Google the lyrics! A great memory from a FANTASTIC wedding reception.
